Ferrari star Charles Leclerc has provided a reassuring update on his condition after suffering a major crash during the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, with the Monegasque driver confirming that he is physically “okay” ahead of next weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix.
Leclerc arrived at Ferrari’s home race with genuine hopes of challenging for victory after qualifying near the front of the grid. Starting from third position, the driver was expected to play a major role in the battle at the famous Temple of Speed and give the passionate Tifosi another reason to celebrate.
However, his hopes of a memorable Monza victory disappeared within just three laps.
Leclerc had already been involved in an intense battle with Ferrari team-mate Lewis Hamilton during the opening lap as the two Ferrari drivers fought for position. The situation became even more dramatic shortly afterwards when Leclerc lost control of his SF-26 while exiting the Parabolica.
The Ferrari was sent heavily into the barriers, bringing Leclerc’s race to a premature and disappointing end. The crash immediately raised concerns about whether the 2026 Italian Grand Prix had left the driver with any physical injuries.
The incident was particularly painful for Leclerc because of its location. The Monegasque had suffered another major accident at the same corner during the 2020 season, making the latest crash an especially frustrating moment.
With the Spanish Grand Prix scheduled only seven days after the race at Monza, questions quickly emerged over whether Leclerc would be fit enough to take part in the upcoming Madrid event.
Leclerc has now moved to calm those concerns.
Taking to social media following the incident, the Ferrari driver revealed that although the crash was physically significant, he was feeling okay. He also admitted that the emotional impact of retiring from his home race was even more difficult to deal with.
“Not how I wanted the weekend to go,” Leclerc wrote. “Thanks for all the messages.”
“Physically, that was a big one, but I’m okay. Emotionally, it hurts even more for something like this to happen here at home, in front of all of you, the tifosi.”
Leclerc also took the opportunity to thank Ferrari supporters for the incredible reception he received throughout the Italian Grand Prix weekend.
“Thank you for the incredible welcome and support all weekend. Monza with you is always something so special,” he added.
The update will come as a major relief to Ferrari and Leclerc’s supporters, particularly with another important race arriving almost immediately.
While the crash represents another disappointing chapter in Leclerc’s difficult Monza weekend, his comments suggest that he is not currently dealing with any serious physical problem. Attention will now turn towards his recovery and preparations for the Spanish Grand Prix.
Ferrari will be hoping that Leclerc can put the disappointment behind him and return to the cockpit in Madrid, where he will look to bounce back from one of the most frustrating endings of his season.
