F1 Austrian Grand Prix 2026 Final Results Confirmed After Late FIA Penalties
The final classification for the 2026 Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix has officially been confirmed following the FIA’s review of post-race incidents, bringing an end to an action-packed weekend at the Red Bull Ring. While several investigations continued after the chequered flag, the governing body concluded that the race order at the front remained unchanged, allowing George Russell to celebrate a deserved victory for Mercedes.
Russell produced one of his strongest performances of the season to claim his second win of the 2026 campaign. Oscar Piastri delivered another consistent performance for McLaren to finish fourth. Although unable to challenge the leading trio, the Australian kept himself comfortably ahead of the midfield battle and collected valuable championship points.
Lewis Hamilton rounded out the top five in a difficult afternoon for Ferrari. The seven-time world champion had shown encouraging pace during qualifying, but tyre degradation limited his ability to challenge for a podium finish during the race. Hamilton nevertheless managed to bring home important points after a hard-fought performance.
Red Bull youngster Isack Hadjar continued his impressive rookie campaign by taking sixth place. His mature drive once again demonstrated why the Austrian outfit has so much confidence in the young French driver, who successfully held off several experienced competitors behind him.
Lando Norris recovered to finish seventh after a challenging race. McLaren struggled to match Mercedes and Red Bull on outright pace, but Norris maximized the package available to secure another useful points finish.
Charles Leclerc endured one of the most disappointing afternoons among the front-running teams. After starting near the front of the grid, Ferrari’s race pace failed to match expectations, leaving the Monegasque driver to settle for eighth position.
Racing Bulls celebrated an excellent team performance as Liam Lawson finished ninth while highly-rated rookie Arvid Lindblad claimed the final points-paying position in tenth. Both drivers executed clean races and capitalized on mistakes from rivals to earn valuable championship points for their team.
Just outside the top ten, Gabriel Bortoleto finished eleventh for Audi ahead of teammate Nico Hulkenberg in twelfth. Alpine’s Pierre Gasly crossed the line in thirteenth, followed by Haas driver Oliver Bearman in fourteenth and Alpine’s Franco Colapinto in fifteenth.
The remaining classified finishers included Esteban Ocon in sixteenth, Alex Albon seventeenth and Fernando Alonso eighteenth. Alonso’s afternoon became more complicated after the FIA imposed a five-second penalty for speeding in the pit lane. Fortunately for the Aston Martin veteran, the sanction did not alter his final finishing position because of the sizeable gap to the drivers around him.
Three drivers failed to see the chequered flag. Lance Stroll retired his Aston Martin after encountering technical issues, while Carlos Sainz’s difficult weekend ended prematurely with a mechanical problem for Williams. Cadillac also suffered disappointment as Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas were both forced to retire before the finish.
Following the race, FIA officials examined several incidents and reviewed potential infringements. Many fans expected additional penalties that could have reshuffled the order, but after completing all investigations, the stewards confirmed that no further sanctions would be issued beyond Alonso’s already-applied pit-lane speeding penalty. As a result, the finishing order remained exactly as it stood when the race ended.
