Two-time Formula 1 world champion Fernando Alonso has revealed that he would be interested in teaming up with reigning world champion Max Verstappen for a future attempt at the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans, creating what many fans believe would be one of the strongest driver pairings in motorsport history.

Alonso, now 44 years old, is approaching a significant crossroads in his racing career. The Spanish veteran remains under contract with Aston Martin F1 Team until the end of the 2026 season, but his future beyond that remains uncertain. Aston Martin has struggled to deliver a competitive package this year, leaving Alonso frustrated as he battles near the back of the field rather than competing for podiums and victories.

The difficult start to the season has led to growing speculation about what Alonso might do next. While retirement from Formula 1 remains a possibility, the veteran racer has made it clear that he still has ambitions to compete at the highest levels of motorsport, even if that means pursuing challenges outside Grand Prix racing.

Speaking at a recent fan event, Alonso discussed several potential goals he would like to achieve in the later stages of his career. Among them is a return to endurance racing, particularly the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans, where he has already enjoyed tremendous success.

Alonso claimed back-to-back victories at Le Mans in 2018 and 2019 while driving for Toyota Gazoo Racing. Alongside teammates Sébastien Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima, he helped Toyota dominate the famous endurance event and cemented his status as one of motorsport’s most versatile competitors.

Although many fans continue to hope Alonso will make another attempt at the Indianapolis 500 in pursuit of motorsport’s coveted Triple Crown, the Spaniard suggested that his current focus lies elsewhere.

According to Alonso, the challenge of competing in the Dakar Rally is particularly appealing. Winning the Dakar would allow him to add another unique achievement to his already remarkable career, demonstrating success across Formula 1, endurance racing, and rally competition.

However, Alonso also admitted that a return to Le Mans remains a tempting prospect. Reflecting on his previous experiences, he described the event as one of the most rewarding challenges of his career and hinted that he could be persuaded to compete again under the right circumstances.

That possibility became even more exciting when Alonso mentioned Verstappen as a dream teammate for a future Le Mans campaign.

The prospect of combining Alonso’s endurance racing expertise with Verstappen’s extraordinary speed and racecraft has immediately captured the imagination of motorsport fans worldwide. Both drivers are widely regarded as among the most talented competitors of their respective generations, and a partnership between them would likely make any team an instant favorite for victory.

Verstappen has also expressed admiration for Alonso on several occasions. The four-time Formula 1 champion previously stated that Alonso would be among his preferred teammates for endurance racing, placing him above almost every other driver in the sport.

The Dutch star’s growing interest in endurance competition has become increasingly evident in recent years. Verstappen recently participated in the famous 24 Hours of Nürburgring and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Despite leading portions of the event, mechanical problems late in the race ended his team’s hopes of securing a podium finish.

With both Alonso and Verstappen openly discussing the possibility, the idea of seeing two Formula 1 champions share a car at Le Mans is no longer just a fantasy. While no official plans have been confirmed, motorsport fans will undoubtedly be hoping that one day the dream partnership becomes a reality on one of racing’s biggest stages.
