The final classification of the 2026 Formula 1 Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix has been amended after Alpine driver Franco Colapinto received a post-race penalty for failing to comply with yellow-flag regulations during the race.
Race stewards handed Colapinto a 10-second time penalty following a review of the incident, resulting in a significant change to the lower end of the points-paying positions. The Argentine driver had originally crossed the line in eighth place, but the sanction dropped him two positions to 10th in the official results.
The adjustment benefited both Racing Bulls drivers, with Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad each moving up one position. The revised classification gives the Faenza-based team additional championship points from what proved to be a productive weekend in Spain.
While the penalty altered the midfield order, there were no changes at the front of the field. Lewis Hamilton delivered a commanding performance to secure his maiden full-distance Formula 1 victory for Ferrari, marking a landmark moment in his first season with the Italian team. Hamilton controlled the race from the front and comfortably took the chequered flag ahead of Mercedes rival George Russell.
Russell finished second after a strong race for Mercedes, while McLaren’s Lando Norris completed the podium in third. The result came after championship leader Kimi Antonelli suffered a surprise mechanical issue that ended his hopes of a strong finish and opened the door for Norris to claim another valuable podium result.
Max Verstappen finished fourth for Red Bull, narrowly missing out on a top-three finish despite a determined drive. McLaren’s Oscar Piastri crossed the line in fifth, adding more points to the team’s championship tally.
Further down the order, Isack Hadjar impressed with sixth place, while Pierre Gasly secured seventh for Alpine. Lawson and Lindblad inherited eighth and ninth respectively following Colapinto’s penalty, with the Alpine driver rounding out the top ten.
Several drivers endured difficult afternoons in Barcelona. Charles Leclerc retired from the race for Ferrari, while Oliver Bearman, Nico Hulkenberg, Valtteri Bottas and Lance Stroll also failed to reach the finish. Fernando Alonso experienced a particularly frustrating home Grand Prix, ending the race many laps down after a challenging event for Aston Martin.
