An F1 driver has suffered a late blow ahead of the British Grand Prix Sprint at Silverstone.

Alex Albon will be forced to start Saturday’s Sprint from the pit lane after the FIA confirmed changes had been made to his Williams car under parc fermé conditions following Friday’s Sprint Qualifying.

According to the FIA’s official decision, Williams modified the suspension setup on Albon’s car after qualifying, which is not permitted under parc fermé regulations without incurring a penalty. The team’s other car, driven by Carlos Sainz, was not subject to the same changes.

As a result of the rule breach, Albon has been demoted to a pit lane start, leaving the Williams driver with an uphill battle when the Sprint gets underway at Silverstone.
