The FIA has confirmed the official classification of the 2026 British Grand Prix Sprint after completing its post-race review involving Racing Bulls driver Liam Lawson. The stewards decided not to issue a penalty, meaning Lawson keeps eighth place and the final championship point on offer in the sprint.
The investigation focused on Lawson’s defensive moves during a late-race battle with teammate Isack Hadjar. After analysing onboard footage, telemetry and video evidence, officials concluded that Lawson’s driving was within the rules and no further action was necessary.
As a result, the sprint standings remain unchanged. Kimi Antonelli claimed an impressive victory after passing Lewis Hamilton, who had started from pole position at Silverstone. Hamilton led the opening stages but could not match Antonelli’s pace in the closing laps and finished second.
Lando Norris secured third place for McLaren, while George Russell came home fourth ahead of Charles Leclerc. The sprint produced several thrilling battles across the grid and set the stage for an exciting qualifying session ahead of Sunday’s British Grand Prix.
Lawson’s point may appear minor, but it represents an important reward for Racing Bulls in the closely contested midfield battle. Escaping a post-race penalty gives both the team and the New Zealander a timely boost in the constructors’ championship.
Despite narrowly missing out on victory, Ferrari’s performance offered plenty of encouragement. Hamilton showed the team’s competitiveness around Silverstone, raising hopes that Ferrari can challenge at the front in the Grand Prix.
With the FIA’s verdict now final, the sprint results stand as they crossed the finish line, and attention now turns to qualifying and Sunday’s main race.
