Breaking: Max Verstappen gives shock reaction over daughter Lily becoming F…read more

Four-time Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen has revealed how becoming a father has influenced his outlook on life, explaining that he wants his daughter, Lily, to grow up with the freedom to make her own choices rather than being pressured into a specific career or lifestyle.

Verstappen and his partner welcomed their daughter in 2025, and the Red Bull Racing star says parenthood has given him a fresh perspective away from the intense demands of Formula 1. As Lily recently celebrated her first birthday, the Dutch driver spoke openly about the values he hopes to pass on to her as she grows up.

During an interview with Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf at the Canadian Grand Prix, Verstappen reflected on the lessons he learned from his own upbringing and how those experiences will shape his approach as a parent.

According to Verstappen, authenticity is one of the most important qualities a person can have. He believes that children should be encouraged to be themselves rather than being moulded into what their parents want them to become.

“For me, the most important thing is to always be yourself,” Verstappen explained. He added that he wants Lily to have complete freedom when deciding what she wants to do in the future, whether that involves sport, academics, a professional career, or something entirely different.

The 28-year-old racing star stressed that many parents make the mistake of trying to control their children’s ambitions, particularly in competitive sports. While introducing children to different activities can be beneficial, Verstappen believes the final decision should always belong to the child.

He noted that some parents become overly invested in their children’s sporting development and attempt to steer them toward a particular path. In his view, this can create unnecessary pressure and reduce the enjoyment that young people should experience when discovering their interests.

Verstappen made it clear that he does not want to impose his own passions or expectations on Lily. Instead, he hopes to provide opportunities for her to explore various activities and then allow her to decide what genuinely interests her.

The Formula 1 champion’s comments are particularly notable given his own journey in motorsport. Verstappen was introduced to racing at a young age and quickly emerged as one of the sport’s brightest talents. Despite his extraordinary success, he appears determined not to assume that his daughter will follow a similar route.

Although he opposes forcing children into specific activities, Verstappen still sees great value in maintaining an active lifestyle. He believes that participating in sports and physical activities can provide important health benefits and help young people develop positive habits.

“Being active is generally good for you,” Verstappen said. “It keeps you healthy and helps you avoid making poor choices.”

His comments suggest that while he would encourage Lily to stay active and healthy, he would not insist on any particular sport or level of competition. Whether she chooses motorsport, another athletic pursuit, or something entirely unrelated, Verstappen intends to support her decisions.

As he continues to compete at the highest level of Formula 1, Verstappen now balances the pressures of championship battles with the responsibilities of family life. The arrival of Lily has added a new dimension to his life away from the racetrack, and he has frequently spoken about enjoying the time he spends with his family during breaks from racing.

While fans may wonder whether the Verstappen name will one day return to the Formula 1 grid through the next generation, the reigning champion insists that such a decision will belong entirely to his daughter. For now, his focus is simply on ensuring that Lily grows up with the freedom, confidence, and support needed to follow her own dreams, wherever they may lead.
