Mercedes have been forced into a late driver change at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix following an unexpected setback that has disrupted the team’s plans for the Baku weekend.
The Silver Arrows arrived in Azerbaijan with championship leader Kimi Antonelli and George Russell expected to spearhead their challenge. However, Antonelli’s weekend immediately took a dramatic turn during the opening practice session when the young Italian suffered a mechanical failure.
Antonelli had completed only a handful of laps when his Mercedes suddenly began to slow after Turn 6. The car eventually came to a stop away from the racing line, prompting marshals to intervene and bring the session under control.
