Breaking: Red Bull Announces Max Verstappen Replacement as driver…read more

Fresh speculation surrounding Max Verstappen’s future at Red Bull Racing is continuing to intensify, with new reports suggesting the reigning champions are already exploring possible replacements if the Dutch superstar chooses to leave the team.

What initially appeared to be typical Formula 1 paddock rumours is now reportedly being taken far more seriously inside Red Bull. Questions over Verstappen’s long-term future have grown after the four-time world champion openly criticised Formula 1’s upcoming regulations and the sport’s changing direction.

Verstappen has previously expressed concerns that the next generation of F1 cars could take away some of the excitement and pure racing feel that drivers enjoy. Those comments have sparked suggestions that he could eventually step away from the sport or look for a new challenge once the new era begins.

Although Red Bull delivered a more competitive showing in Miami, uncertainty remains over whether they can maintain an advantage over rivals for the rest of the season. Both the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team and McLaren Formula 1 Team continue to close the gap, with Mercedes expected to introduce major upgrades at the Canadian Grand Prix.

McLaren have also established themselves as one of the grid’s strongest teams following several impressive performances. Their pace in Miami, especially during the sprint sessions where Lando Norris excelled, highlighted just how competitive they have become.

As a result, both Mercedes and McLaren have been increasingly linked with a possible move for Max Verstappen should he decide to leave Red Bull. McLaren’s connection to the Dutchman strengthened further after reports claimed the team had recent contact with Verstappen’s representatives.

According to the latest reports, Red Bull are no longer dismissing the possibility of losing their star driver. Senior figures within the organisation are believed to be actively preparing contingency plans in case Verstappen departs.

Speaking on the Up to Speed podcast, motorsport broadcaster Will Buxton discussed the situation alongside Naomi Schiff and Jolie Sharpe. During the conversation, Buxton revealed that Red Bull are reportedly evaluating alternative driver options.

One name strongly linked to the team is current McLaren star Oscar Piastri. Reports from Autosport suggest Red Bull view the Australian as a leading candidate to replace Verstappen if needed.

Buxton explained that Red Bull’s reported interest in Piastri indicates the team are genuinely concerned about Verstappen’s future, adding that they would not seriously assess replacements unless they believed there was a realistic possibility of losing him.

The uncertainty reportedly comes not only from rival teams showing interest, but also from doubts surrounding Verstappen’s long-term motivation to remain in Formula 1 as the sport enters a new technical era.

Additional reports claim Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies and Red Bull executive Oliver Mintzlaff are prepared to pursue a move for Piastri if Verstappen eventually decides to leave.

For now, Verstappen has made no public decision regarding his future. However, reports that Red Bull are already planning for life after their dominant champion underline the growing uncertainty surrounding one of Formula 1’s biggest stars.

With competition becoming increasingly fierce and Formula 1 preparing for a major new era, Verstappen’s future is quickly becoming one of the sport’s most closely followed storylines.
