The 2026 Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix gets underway this weekend at the iconic Zandvoort circuit, with the fifth Sprint weekend of the season bringing an earlier taste of competitive action.
Fans will not have to wait until Saturday to see the drivers battle for position. Sprint Qualifying takes place today, Friday, August 21, and will determine the starting order for Saturday morning’s Sprint race.
Sprint Qualifying is scheduled to begin at 15:30 BST on Friday and is expected to run for approximately 45 minutes, making it shorter than the traditional one-hour qualifying session used to set the grid for the main Grand Prix.
The session will be particularly important because there is little room for error. Drivers will have limited opportunities to find the ideal balance around Zandvoort’s challenging layout, where high-speed corners and narrow sections can make overtaking difficult.
Before Sprint Qualifying, teams will complete their only free practice session of the weekend. Free Practice 1 is scheduled for 11:30 to 12:30 BST, giving drivers one final opportunity to gather data and fine-tune their cars before the competitive sessions begin.
Once Sprint Qualifying is complete, attention will turn to Saturday’s Sprint race. The 2026 Dutch Grand Prix Sprint is scheduled to start at 11:00 BST on August 22 and will provide drivers with another opportunity to score valuable championship points.
Later on Saturday, the focus will shift toward the main Grand Prix. Traditional qualifying is scheduled for 15:00 to 16:00 BST, with the results determining the starting grid for Sunday’s 2026 Dutch Grand Prix.
The weekend will then conclude with the main race on Sunday, August 23, which is scheduled to begin at 14:00 BST.
