Ferrari team principal Frédéric Vasseur has firmly rejected suggestions that his team’s recent progress is linked to any unfair advantage, responding after comments from Toto Wolff sparked debate following the British Grand Prix.
Ferrari enjoyed one of its strongest weekends of the 2026 Formula 1 season at Silverstone, with Charles Leclerc securing a memorable victory while teammate Lewis Hamilton delighted the home crowd by finishing on the podium. The result marked another important step forward for the Italian team as it continues to close the gap to championship leaders Mercedes.
The Scuderia’s resurgence has been one of the biggest talking points of the season. While Mercedes have remained the benchmark across the opening nine races, Ferrari have emerged as their most consistent challengers. Hamilton’s breakthrough victory in Barcelona and Leclerc’s triumph at Silverstone are the only occasions this year that a Mercedes driver has failed to stand on the top step of the podium.
Ferrari’s improvement has coincided with the introduction of several performance upgrades throughout the campaign. His comments implied that the Scuderia might have fewer opportunities to introduce major upgrades later in the season without exceeding the financial restrictions.
Vasseur was quick to dismiss any implication that Ferrari’s gains had come from operating outside the rules. Speaking after the British Grand Prix, the Frenchman insisted every improvement made by his team had been achieved within Formula 1’s regulations and under the same financial constraints faced by every other team on the grid.
The Ferrari chief also questioned what he viewed as inconsistent reactions whenever Ferrari introduce successful upgrades. He argued that every leading team continually develops its car throughout the season and suggested it was unfair for Ferrari’s progress to attract greater scrutiny than similar improvements made by their rivals.
With momentum now building, Ferrari believe their latest package has provided a solid platform for the remainder of the campaign. The team has steadily reduced the gap in the championship standings and will hope recent performances can be maintained over the coming races.
Despite Mercedes still leading both title battles, Ferrari have shown they are capable of challenging for victories when opportunities arise.
